Just been watching loads of random iPhone videos. It seems so restricted when it's not jail broken...I don't wanna jail break it though cause it's on contract etc...

Anyone got anyways of changing the theme and stuff like that without it being illegal? The standard theme looks so boring after seeing some of them now.

Don't confuse jailbreaking with being illegal. Nothing illegal about it at all. Being in contract does not cause any problems either.

Thanks Jezza, been researching about it and as you say it's not possible without.

Going on what you say Rob my only query is T-Mobile being able to tell I'm doing stuff on the phone I maybe shouldn't be able to do otherwise? If it came to warranty or an insurance claim I can just restore the phone as I have done this before my 2G when I had it before.

Just gotta wait for a decent guide to do jail breaking on the new 3.1.3 firmware and I'll do it, sick of seeing all the cool things you can do on a jailbroken phone!

with blackrain when you turn off the phone, it disappears anyway so no way to tell it was ever done.

Well I downloaded Blackrain and started doing it, but then realised it was only for 3.1.2 so cancelled it. Now restoring the phone, gonna try and find out how to get it back to 3.1.2 then do it again. Looks like a pretty high success rate!

It's not working. It comes up saying it's been successful but it just does nothing. It's a blank screen but it's lit up and says to wait for reboot, waited 10 mins and nothing happens when it should be coming up with the blackrain picture on the screen. Annoying.

waaaaaaaaat?

Do you worry what Vauxhall might say about what your doing to your car?
Do you ever consider what the oringal land lord might be saying about your re-decorating?

Who are they to tell you what you can and cant do with YOUR possesions?

Yeah I completely agree but you know they'd just laugh at you if you turned around and said that to them

Currently using the iPhone as it was when I first got it, lost all my apps gay.

that maybe be so, but they have no legal leg to stand on.
Your modifying an OS of a smartphone/PC, it makes no odds.
They dont own it, your not renting it, its your hardware to do as you see fit.

I only jailbreak mine for TomTom software (I think tomtom is THE best), and for themes.

Had a lady friends Iphone jailbroken by a mate at uni. He used black rain. Iphone version is 3.1.2..

it didnt work first time, so he unplugged the phone, plugged it back into computer, ran the black rain, and when it said waiting for reboot, just unplug the computer lead.

I'm using 3.1.3 that's the only thing and it's only been released a few days as far as I know so I don't know if this programs been patched. Can't figure out how to put it back to old firmware.

I agree completely Bart

Yeah I found that out last night it kept on saying my iPhone wasn't compatible with 3.1.2 firmware. Put it back to normal for now and will just have to wait until a decent jailbreak is released, could be a few weeks apparently, oh well

According to what I've read, you can't jailbreak the 3.1.3 firmware and if the phone is already jailbroken, updating to 3.1.3 will undo the jailbrake. I ain't gonna bother updating mine coz all it does apparently is fixes a very rare crashing on the 3GS and I don't even have a 3GS anyways so no points.

Yeah thats obvious that's almost always been the case it's just cause I already upgraded the firmware to something they haven't got a jailbreak for yet.

It's not illegal to unlock or jailbreak your phone. If any of the parties involved get pissed it's a civil matter.
