Im looking at buying a Corsa C SXi - 1.2 16v

My budget is about £2,000 which i know isnt alot, should my £2k land me a tidy one?

I dont want anything with too many miles - 80k tops really

What are the common problems on these? Anything in particular i should look out for when looking at one?

Thanks very much

the 1.2 is chain driven so can obviously get noisy. C gear linkages are notorious for problems but not major to put right.
Should be able to get one for 2k if you shop around, cheapest around here atm is £2195 I think.

Thanks lads,

Didn't realise they were chain driven, when are they due for replacing? 100k??

Theres a few about on PH and AutoTrader, one is quite nice, 80k, red, tidy, but no SH - £1800

I don't think you strictly need to replace a chain do you? Just they get noisy.

I dunno mate, my 2.2 Vectra was chain driven and meant to be changed at about 110,000 miles

Could always snap just like a belt.

just checked my haynes manual (covers chain driven models) and it doesn't give any intervals for chains, only belts?

my handbrakes shit, my arb knocks and my gear linkage was shot! everythin i knew about when i bought it and nothin i cant fix when i get time but i got mine cheap.
cam chain doesnt have a changing interval, its designed to last the life of the engine, tensioner can be changed if it gets noisy though.
for the op i got a 2004 sri with 75k for £2700.

Peice of piss to do.

Just take the gaitor off from around the handbrake handle and you can see a long threaded bar with a nut on, Just tighten it up with a 10mm spanner until you have about 3 or 4 clicks on the hand brake. Its a less than 10 ninute job!

The one on hers had about 8 or 9 clicks before it would even bite, And then it was piss poor!

Corsa C's apparently suffer from rubbish handbrakes, no matter what you replace or what you do. Bad design maybe?

Im looking at Corsa C's atm but need to sell my other car first.

I got my 04 plate 1.8 SRi with 45k for £2,000, buth then again its a Cat C, but i seen it get repaired etc. You should find a decent 2001+ SXi for £2k or less.
