I got bought this TV for Christmas:
http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/531405/HITACHI-22LD5550U

I have since gone and bought this surround sound:
http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/605883/SAMSUNG-HT-Z120T-XEU?cm_sp=FeatureEnd-_-DVD_Home_Cinema_Systems-_-position

I had the intention of connecting the surround sound to TV with HDMI cable as I presumed this was the best way of doing it, in terms of pictures quality and sound. I presumed that the surround sound system had a HDMI port, because of it being able to upscale to HD.

Since getting the DVD surround sound home, there is no HDMI port (and since realised this on the spec on the Comet website). My query is whether not having a HDMI port will make a difference to quality, and not make the most of the new TV?

This surround sound system DOES have a HDMI port, so I'm wondering whether it'd be better than the Samsung I have just bought?

What are your thoughts?

What use is an upscaling DVD player that can't output to an HDTV?

I'd take it back and get the other.

No idea. Spec for spec the Samsung is actually better though, apart from HDMI connections.

I presume HDMI is a better way of connecting then?

HDMI is the easies way of connecting and generally the best quality. However, you have component video on your TV and this will be just as good in terms of picture quality.

The manual doesn't mention HDMI upscalling. . .on the phone to Comet now.

EDIT: It seems that it will upscale through component connection and not the scart. I'll stick with it I think.
