Im currently sorting out a turboed 8v engine for my corsa, 218bhp, 239 lb ft of torque, only trouble is that it wont be supplied with an intercooler, need to see where and how any of you have fitted these to your corsas, please also tell me the volume of the cooler so as to help me see the differences etc, also anyone able to recommend a supplier and approx cost.

many thanks
Tony

You want to use some sort of cooler even if with water injection mate. If your on a budget I wouldn't bother with places like wallace cause they'll want £500 odd for a ic. What intercooler was used with it before? Some people have fitted the frontera diesel ones to there diesel corsa's I think.

Even if you just use a standard LET ic, would only cost about £25. Look to use a standard ic off other turbo cars if money is an issue.

I've got a cossie 2wd ic here, not got a pic to hand though, its about 2.5 litres capacity.

converting a corsa to a turbo , there are always risks, whatever you do , dont go cheap n nasty, get quality brand new products m8 , you wil just regret it when it goes pop or fucks up, always buy the best and im sure you will have no probs

By using well sourced secondhand parts youre not really increasing the risk of your conversion. Everything comes at a price, and if you paid the highest price and bought the best products everytime you would either spend a fortune or get very little for your money.

doesnt matter now as the engine has been sold since I last spoke to the guy yesterday, now am looking at a 2.0 16v turbo from a cav and comes with box and cooler etc, reckon that wil be more reliable.

thanks for the replies anyway, wil no doubt be needing them numbers if this engine checks out ok.

!! how do you reckon on that?? surely an engine that is standard would be far more reliable than an engine that is putting out 100bhp more than it was intended to do!

If you are looking for a smallish intercooler, consider the one fitted to the Golf 1.8t. It is quite small so helps reduce turbo lag but can handle upto 230bhp-ish and 240Ib/ft. If that matches the engine characteristics of the 2.0 8v, try and find someone who is upping their Golf to larger turbo etc. AwesomeGTi might be a good starting point.

ive just been talking to a bloke in a garage and read a few mags on putting a 2litre turbo into a corsa as i was thinking of it and both said it would wheel spin too much and handling would be pretty bad =0/

erm handling shouldnt really be any worse than a normal 2l 16v corsa, its down to the suspension that you fit,its always gonna be front heavy and have a tendancy to understeer especially in the wet, but just get used to it and know the limits. and as for wheelspin, well thats what a LSD is for!

You would need some kind of diff to get the power down correctly, also a decent suspension setup to handle the extra weight.

as said before doesnt matter too much now as the engine was sold the next day to someone else, it was over 200 miles away and didnt expect it to sell so quick, now looking at fitting a 16v oneand will just fit the biggest cooler I can
EEERM cybermonkey, how about the diff in the gearbox, and Ive also got coilovers on mine so thats not a problem for me.
