Well after the reception I got when I mentioned i would only be going tpft on my Astra Gsi, I decided to do alot of shopping around and managed to get a fully comp qoute of £1700 a year, which was only £300 more than my previous qoute with the same company on tpft.

Just had a couple of questions which I couldn't see answered on the website.

The company are called "Performance Direct", was abit worried as I hadn't heard of them before, but all the major compare sites seem to use them and have always given me the best qoutes, anyone on here used them before?

Also as Ive never been fully comp before I have heard your entitled to drive other cars, is this an always or is this just with certain companies?
And is there any stipulations to using other cars? Do they have to be under a certain engine size or value?

As i have an astra mk4 van I use at the minute which I wouldn't mind still being able to use if I could.

Thanks in Advance

Driving other cars is only if it says on the policy, there's a 99% chance you won't have it.

Some companies apparently have stipulations but I've never seen any on my policy, barring you can't own it.

I didn't see it mentioned when I got the qoute so I will ask when I ring them.

No real loss with the van, just would have been a bonus if I was able to use it when I needed to.

Who are you insured with John?

sand-eel - yep Im happy to, I was paying £1500 tpft on my green corsa when i passed my test, and I can afford it no problem, only reason I didnt want fully comp before was the fact that the qoutes I was getting where around £2500, but now Ive found cheaper Im more then happy to.

Im 19 with 2 years ncb by the way

Whats wrong with TPFT? Other than windscreen cover what else does FC give you that you really give a shit about?

I only ever got FC on cars with a high value other wise its just waste of money.

Davey - Ive always been on tpft, but considering I just paid £6k for an astra gsi and Ive got good qoutes IMO for fully comp. I would rather just play it safe.

Boycey - Im with quinn at the moment tpft

Already tried insuring the Gsi with quinn and they said I had to be 31 minimum to drive the Gsi

What if fully comp is cheaper than tpft like is often the case now?

What's high value? I'd say it's worth it on any car that's worth more than what fully comp costs extra on the insurance.

If FC is cheaper go for it, but if it isnt and the car is low value why bother? If someone hits you, you claime of them, if you bin it tough!

Virgin will apparently let me drive other cars, though the policy documents haven't yet materialised so I can't confirm that.

I still can't understand how this makes the insurance cheaper. Been looking at quotes and adding the old man brings the quote down by £500

They work on the basis that the named drivers will all use the car, so if someone of a lower risk is using the car some of the time the over-all risk comes down..

My old-dear is on one my policies because she borrow's the car once in a while and it puts it UP by a tenner lol

i was with CIS fully comp when I was 17-20 and I could drive other cars

i was with HIC only TPFT from 20-22 and could drive any other cars

i kept the corsa with HIC from 22-26 still only TPFT and I can still drive any other cars

the BMW was with Virgin for the last 3 or 4 years but they wouldnt let me drive any other cars (dont care as HIC policy covers me anyways)

It doesn't matter what policy the other cars have. As long as there is at least third party insurance on them. Quinn are actually pretty good. The only down fall is they charge £250 excess for anyone under 25
