As some may know Im on the hunt for a MK4 Astra Gsi, not having much luck with finding any close to home but would rather travel up counrty to find and buy a decent one.

Found a couple which are both a good treck away and my old man has agreed to drive me up there, buy one and bring it back.
Obivously he will be driving his own car, but just wanted to know whats the best way of going about insuring the potential new car.

The only idea I have is to line up a couple of cars to view, put insurance on the first one and the main one I want to see, and if it turns out not to be the one then look at the next etc and then ring and switch insurance over.
Is this the best way to go about it?

If it was any closer I would put a deposit on the car then come back and take it away once insurance sorted, but considering how far they are away I really just want to go up there, buy it and take it away.

So any other suggestions?

get the quote before hand,

when you've viewed the car, ring the insurance on your mobile and insure it,

thats what i tend to do (if the cars ok obviously)

Don't suppose either you or your Dad are insured to drive anything?

My old man has trade insurance, but he will be using his car to get up there, I just have normal insurance and only tpft.

Not a bad idea S@M will keep that in mind

Out of curiosity, how far are you going to look for on? I usually get my dad to drive it on his insurance (if the car i'm buying is insured)

According to auto trader and pistonheads approx. 250miles and slightly more on the 2nd car.
Bare in mind up as south as the south west goes

If you still have your Corsa then why not drive and let your dad drive your new car back.

Well I will be buying it once my policy is up on the green one, as all the money will be together just after, and tbh I wouldn't want to drive such an underpowered car on the motorway all that distance.
