Dale just noticed a fault (I think) with the swirlpot plumbing. The pipe on the very top of the pot should be the return back to the tank due to over fill, not the feed from the lift pump in the tank.

The two inlets on the side should be feeds into the pot, one from the lift pump in the tank, the second the return back from your FPR.

Funny you should had that Tim as someone else said that and I spent to night double checking and even popped down to steve at GWR Motorsport to check and his reply to the above setup was...

The reason I have plumbed it this way is to ensure the tank doesn't get pressurize by allowing all of the excess fuel to return to the main tank correctly since the swirl pot is above the main tank, in fact all of the pipes should be at tangent to the main swirl pot tank, this would help reduce airated fuel by the incoming fuel "swirling" around the top of the tank and then the "neat" fuel filling the swirl pot up to the over flow, this results in an unpressurised reserve of fuel to supply the main fuel pump. The last thing you want to do is force fuel back into the swirl pot where fuel already is!! This desigin is used by all top touring car, tin top, single seater race teams, a proven system, Fit and forget.....

Fair play then. I never plan on having to run a swirl pot so i should be safe. If I suffer fuel surge ill change to a proper sumped tank and an 044

Had abit more time on him again today...

First off was the tack weld plates to make front panel removable

Top intercooler brackets tacked on

Mounted FPR and ran lines, haven't plumbed in fuel pressure sensor yet

Feed to rail

At present I'm going to use those XE cam's on standard marks, so first off was to put inlet back to standard marks and swap exhaust cam.

Strip down...

Exhaust cam removed..

Cam with pick up and sensor

Then I started routing my intercooler piping

With correct silicone joiners

Where the header tank is going

Then onto oil pressure sensor

Old vs new

Adapter for block, M14 x1.5 to -4 and -4 to -3 adapter then -3 hose to mount sensor on the bulk head

Then I seem to have hit a small problem..... placement for oil cooler so at present the location will be here and ducting and vent for cooler to help air flow, it will be changed to a 19row aswell....

Rough location

Using one of these

I will also be changing oil sandwich plate to 1/2 bsp with thermostat

Dale I think you will find the bottom outlet on the FPR goes back to the swirl pot, and the other side of the rail is the feed from your 044

Nice tidy job your doing though

Sorry for nit-picking.

Going to be a cramped engine bay aint it. Instead of the air fed oil cooler, you thought about using a laminova inbetween the rad and the plastic pipe from behind the engine. It is what I was I planning on doing but my mate sold his laminova before I could raise the funds.

Its not nit picking.....

I'm going to try this cooler this way first but if it doesn't work I will look into it... with the motec I can monitor the oil temps alot more accurately than I could before! The plan is also to move the hot air out from the cooler too, I have a plan for that but I will have to have a play first....

Update time again

Old oil temp vs new oil temp

Modified a coil pack bracket to take x20xev coil pack, currently have early head fitted on no threads on side for bracket

Few more goodies have turned up

New oil cooler 19row x 235mm vs old item 13row x 235mm

New hoses from Roose Motorsport, 2 way water pipe as I no longer use the 3rd connection for the inlet manifold, 10deg bend for intercooler pipe to trottle body and some other hose

Mocking oil cooler and cold feed to this

Currently using my old oil cooler lines to check for clearance....

All for brackets made top two go to front panel and bottom two go to battery tray

Then time to pull apart

For my reference the part number of the studs I used (BMW part number)

Studs fitted

Removed inlet

old 3 way pipe to be replaced

Next was to make adapter for the air temp sensor for the inlet, I used previous adapter which i cut the end off, drilled and tapped the m10 x 1.25 thread for air temp sensor....

Thats all for now
