I don't know what to do lads..

I could be persuaded into a redtop transplant to be quite honest, but im just a bit weiry about them, it would be just my luck to buy an abused 1!

I do think it would be a lot cheaper to that especially for the sort of power i want..

I don't really know what to do as i say

If you want a "decent" redtop try and purchase a running one so you can hear rattles and see smoke etc.

My advice is to buy a new loom or at least renew sensors before you put the engine in and check all the wiring that theres no snags/split/corrosion as this seems to be the biggest problem.
People spunk money on replacing perfectly good piston rings and dont check the 20+ year old wiring thats all bent up in the wrong shape rubbing on every sharp edge it can find in the bay, this ultimately leads to many problems.

You could always buy a corsa thats already done and you know the history of etc...

There's no reason not to tune a 1600 except that it works out a bit more expensive per horsepower, particularly as you start getting close to 140 brake upwards.

I've kept the 1600 because I want the car to remain fairly standard and not bastardise it too much, plus I can't insure a 2 litre and don't really want to mess about with shafts/mounts/nonstandard wiring and all that messing.

But I'm not going just for power. I chose against a redtop because I don't merely want an easy route to 150 horse, there is more to my plan than that. You may feel differently.

Funny thread

But on a serious note:
- Inlet manifold
- Exhaust manifold
- Uprated air filter (panel filter)
- Decat
- Cat-back
- Cams
- Port Polished head
- Remap
- Lightened flywheel
- ARP conrods

Can anything be done to fuel (injection system)?

If it doesn't quite make the power you want have you thought about handling / weight loss side of things?

Yes

I am aiming for 140 bhp + from my 1.6 and i have/have to buy

Inlet plenum (the ones Flame is selling)
Cams
Decent exhaust system (I will be using an Ashley system)
Map
Chip
Pistons (if i can afford them if not just new piston rings and clean the current pistons up)
ARP bolts (a guaranteed 15 bhp+ )
And remove the rear seats for 10 bhp

Good lord, just wasted 10 minutes of my life reading this thread

Really not worth the money tuning a 1600, get a redtop in, it may well break, but by the time you get a 1.6 16v to 150bhp, you could buy 4 XEs, or buy one and rebuild it to a high standard, wont blow up.

1.6 16 valves can get to 150bhp pretty easy and saying its not worth tuning is a bit daft as you can get 250 ish bhp out of one, granted I'm talking alot of money, But they aint bad engines, And not every one can afford to insure a 2.0 16 valve widow maker, Would have put an xe in my Nova but i would be dead in a week and would have wiped out most of the north east's wooded area.

True, but then if you were being legal, I bet it would cost as much to insure a standard XE as it would to declare a X16XE with cams, inlet, full exhaust etc.

XEs in a nova are pretty mental, true, my brothers XE nova would hit 5th limiter easy, fucking mad how fast it got there too.

Can I just say! as a 1.6 stands it dose not need cams to see 140bhp! I have had 160bhp out out of my standard cams! they just run out of lift after that!
