Even though I clicked for the Astra. Now im thinking about it, I would go for the GTi-6. Really underestimated cars.

306 for definite. Easier to find a good one. Wont rust like an Astra. Its quicker and handles better........... But a decent Astra looks so much better

doesnt the 6 have 6 gears too. and 20bhp more power.

i prefer the looks of the gsi but the gti 6 will be more of a drivers car imo.

As much as I like Astra Gsi's it would have to be the gti-6 for me.

Same reasons as Jon_C mentioned, and a mate has one and think they are a really good car for the money.
Just be aware of tappity engines, as thats apparently a sign of not well looked after engines and in some cases bad repair of cambelt failure.

GTi6.

Astra probably has the better engine, but the overall car of the GTi is far far better.

It'll do bends well too.

Rated classic, buy them now, they will go up in value. An Astra GSi will only go down.

Mk3 Astra Gsi for me everytime. But it'd have to be a clean 1.

And as for speed etc, they are about the same in the real world.

VXR;A mint P1 Astra Gsi will be worth more than the equivelent Gti-6 without a doubt.

gti-6 is a great car. handle very well, very fast and sound amazing with a magnex!
the interior is nicer than the astra imo and the seats (half leather half alcantara) are so comfortable. its also got the little luxuries like air con and trick things like automatic wipers

Debatable.

GTi-6 will be a more sought after car in a few years. The astra won't.

Lots more Astra GSi's were also made, thus decreasing the value.

Its like a Pug 106 Rallye is a sought after car, a good condition one would wipe the floor with price compared to the equivilant Corsa GSi.

Maybe more were made but how many are left nowadays compared to 306 Gti-6's.A clean P1 Astra Gsi is getting hard to find, thus making it worth more imo.A few years time there wont be much left.

Gti-6's came in 2 phases and are pretty common in both.Granted the Mk3 Gsi came in 2 phases but no 1 wants the P2 as its just a Sport in drag, therefor making the P1 even more desirable.

I agree with the Rallye comment tho,but thats a totally different situation.Id rather have a 306 Rallye over the Gti-6.

id get the astra even if the gti6 is better, just like the look of the astras more and the engine , would have a good look around for a nice genuine one and not go for the later ecotec ones

Depends what your after. For looks and a bit of toe down grin factor an astra GSi will be a better bet, although the handling is something that you will wish was a little better.

But if your not too bothered about looks a ph3 306 GTi makes an awesome drivers car, they are said to be the last good handling car pug made.

Unsure about the pug vs astra in the classic status. I know a mk2 16v GTE in mint condition is worth far more than the equivalent 1.9 205 GTi. And look at the prices of 106 GTi's they are falling like a church off a cliff! I think the astra will be worth more in the long haul.

The mk3 Gsi is one of the best looking vaux's ever. Plus cheap maintenance, billions of bits availible etc.
