I didn't mean to sound like a fanboy, its just for a bit more than a std blu ray player you can get one of these which offers a lot more

say added software needed to play blu-rays in the future comes out. older players will not work. ps3 will be updated off the net. that 2.0 whatever its called cant be updated onto older blu ray players. yet the ps3 got it in a software update.

dont think of it as a ps3. its actually pretty good at everything else. it upscales avi's etc aswell which are files that a lot of other blu ray players cant play.

i use my ps3 now for playing films more than games.

Thats not automatic then if you have to manually download the update off the internet to your laptop then fuck-about plugging the laptop into the Bluray player, then download the software to bluray player....

perhaps he wants a stand alone BR player that bitstreams HD audio to a reciever, unlike the ps3 which deals with HD audio onboard

yeah as above. switch ps3 on, it says update available, click it on, go make a brew and smoke a tab and away you go. it finds the update and informs you there is one.

not knocking other players, i just find it funny people seem to slate the ps3 whereas it gets great reviews for what it does in regards to media player etc.

im not slating the ps3, as john said some still use it as a benchmark for testing blurays.

but why pay the extra price for a ps3 when all you need is a blu ray player and when you can get several stand alones now for cheaper, that do the job better?

the panasonic i got many have said it gives much better sound than the ps3 and a better picture, the best bit is its cheaper. i did my research and feel i made the right choice

No DVD bundle now though. Must have been a January offer...
