I have a laptop with Blu-Ray player that I connect to my TV with a HDMI cable for watching films/downloaded tv programs.

Basically I would like to connect my laptop to a home cinema system that then was connected to the TV. So sound comes through the cinema system and picture through the TV.

The TV only has one HDMI input. I only want a 2 speaker and subwoofer system really, that would do me. Can you do this with most cinema systems or not?

A guy at work has just bought this Sony system which he said would do that but its a bit expensive for me. Dont know if theres anything that will do what I want but for cheaper?

Red and White socket things.

Then theres another one that says digital audio out (optical).

It'd also be handy if I could have the laptop connected to the cinema system for playing my music through

Surely the sound out from your TV to amp would play the sound perfectly fine?

Other option would be the sound out from your laptop directly to your amp and play the film via HDMI on the TV.

get an amp that will accept the optical output from the T.V. Connect your Laptop directly to the T.V. with HDMI and your T.V. to the amp with the optical thingy. that way whatever you are watching on T.V. (either t.v. or laptop blue ray stuff) will have its sound played through the amp.

As we've found out on here recently not all TV's will pass through the hdmi audio from the TV, you might get stereo at best, that's probably the best option though unless the laptop has optical out, in which case optical from the laptop straight to tv.

hdmi from laptop to amp then tv is another option but unless you have a fairly fancy amp that won't be possible.

wait if you only want two speakers and a subwoofer why bother, surely the speakers in the tv are decent enough?

not really gonna be that much different just adding a sub and 2 speakers, especially if your on a budget.

why not spend a bit of cash and get a decent hdmi amp and 5.1 sound system?

I do this connect my laptop to TV though a vga cable and I have a surround sound system so to get the audio from my laptop to that I use a cable like in the link below. Really cheap way of doing it if you have a spare input on the back of your amp.

Just type in ebay rca to headphone jack.

I dont want to spend much because its only for my bedroom and the speakers built in to my Samsung R74 TV are totally crap no matter how its set up. They lack any real volume and have no bass at all which is no good when watching films!

I'll buy a proper set up when I move out and get a bigger TV.

Think I've found a solution with either of these

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Jamo-A102HCS5-Cinema-Speaker-Package/dp/B000QEB270/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1235819591&sr=1-9

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Onkyo-Digital-Home-Theatre-System/dp/B0019X43CS/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1235819883&sr=1-5

Laptop to either of those systems via HDMI then from the cinema system to TV via HDMI... I hope!

Get the Onkyo out of those two.

You'll be able to plug in another device too.

Haha, probably from me! I can't praise them enough. Bought the 605 and then upgraded to the 806 a few months later. Love their AV amps.

why not just get an onkyo 606 for about £350 and just get some cheap speakers to go with it till you want to upgrade to a 5.1 set.

seems a waste to purchase a 2.1 system for £250 when you said your going to upgrade to a 5.1 later.

a 606 will run a 2.1 system great not to mention its hdmi passthrough and does HD audio which will future proof you.

The HTX-22HD is up-gradable to 5.1
You just buy the 3 extra speakers from Onkyo for about £99

Good value for money and they come rated quite highly on the likes of AVForums etc..
