dave a mapped his own car. i wonder how much better the results might have been if someone who knew what they were doing had mapped it.

ive been in a corsa that does road rallying stage things. 211bhp 1600 16v. wasnt anything custom in that engine. all off the shelf parts. it fuckin flew.

am i right in thinking that mk4 astras came with either x18xe1 or z18xe?

x18xe = 116bhp
z18xe = 136bhp

^is that right? what are the visual differences?

Up to 2000 they had (about) 113 bhp then 2000 - 2004 it was 123 bhp.

The torque is 125 for both engines.

Figures from Parkers.

So if it's a Sport then 113 bhp, SRI 123 bhp.

later astra gsi mk3 had 130 something bhp from 1.8 16v

these were shockingly slow compared to the c20xe earlier ones

he said that he mapped the hell out of his corsa, so presumably yes he mapped his own car.

i certainly know very little about engine conversions lol

x18xe1 engines are silly cheap and i'm looking for the most sensible way to 160/170 bhp

but mine is already a peachy (totally standard) x16xe... hmm

yeah the head was good. but he didnt do it. he built it, ie putting the parts ini which i could have done myself. he just offered to do it for a few quid.

id not even remotely class building a cylinder head as having anything to do with mapping really.

Well he seemed to get good enough results, but I suppose a lot of trial and error was done, but I would say that is just to be expected.

dont misunderstand me. i like dave. nice bloke, very helpful.

but you cant compensate for years of experience of mapping stuff by having a few rolling road days.
