if you can prove he knew about the issues then you are within your right to get your money back. But seeing as though its a private sale you have no chance of getting money back really as its your responsibility to check the car over.

When you buy as a consumer from a motor trader, your legal rights under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 cannot be taken away or reduced. An example of an attempt to do so is a notice such as ‘sold as seen’. Such phrases are meaningless and cannot alter your rights.

You are still entitled, however, to expect the car to be ‘as described’. If the advertisement says ‘2000 Ford Focus’ or ‘excellent condition’ then it should be exactly that.

Private sales are 'sold as seen' (unless they offer a garuntee). It means the seller has no responsibility to give a warrenty of any kind. The seller may help pay towards some of the repair costs out of goodwill but you legally dont have anything over the seller

Can you prove he knew it was rotten? You just need to learn that you should look over a car before buying it.

Also buying private has about no rights in terms of sales of goods act

and tbh mate i want want to be harsh, but you asked on here for help on what to look at, peoples replies were:
my version

rust under boot seal, inner wings, around front struts, front cross member, underneath headlights, rear arches, bottom of doors, bottom of front wings.

xe should defo be stitch/ seam welded in engine bay and even better have the strengthening plates in as well.

if you go and look at a car after being told that and still dont look at them bits then you only have yourself to blame

Nothing you can do mate. Its not like you bought it from a dealer so there is no guarantee, warranty etc. Its sold as seen. Should have checked it over properly mate and not just taken his word for it being good condition
