The 12v was only available from post-97 (facelift cars). 12v was available on Sting models and possibly some others BUT you definitely get a rev counter on a GLS

I expect the GLS is the top model of the 12v's. You know because you have one though

Wouldn't an aftermarket tachometer be easier to get working or is it just as stupid?

ermmmmm, naaaa, I don't think I'll swap Dave.

Yeah, GLS was the top spec of the 12v's really.

CDX only came as low as the 1.2 16v.

Dan295 had/has one in his 1.4 8v iirc.

You could get an aftermarket one but I'd rather have a standard set of clocks. Just a preference, really.

The bloke at the dealership told me to get an aftermarket one

tbh, not having a rev counter would be quite nice. Sitting on the motorway at 70mph knowing the engine isn't revving its nuts off would be nice

Saying that, my missus' 1.4 16v Fiesta sits at 3.5krpm at 70mph, just like the 12v does

I'm glad I don't have a rev counter. Its boring enough watching the speedo slowly go up, nevermind another bloody clock mving slowly!

I tend to watch the road when driving tbh.

Or if it's an uphill slip road, the scenery.

yeah i would start to get worried at knowing the engine is revving it's nuts off haha, well i have hit 95, must of been bouncing off the limiter lmao!!

Naaa, you can't bounce off the limiter in 5th, it just won't happen.

P.S. 0-60mph standard is 16.5seconds, not in the 19's.

You should be able to tell when the engine is revving its nuts off without a rev counter.

I know and can.

70mph in a 12v isn't really revving the nuts off it anyway, revving the nuts off it is 85-90mph.

Going up to Derby I was doing 85-90 for some of it and I've never seen the petrol gauge go down so fast

You can hear it proper revving as well, I don't like making such a small engine work so hard

Edit - Ditto mate Plus people who want petrol to last that extra bit longer

The top speed is meant to be 93 I thought Only way to make it to 100 is go down hill - a big one at that!

Overtaking has to be planned. And planned well. If it's a slight incline, forget about it.

Believe it or not I'll be sad to see my 12v go. Has been a trusty steed.

I overtook a 5 door B the other night, came up the slip road to the A40 and they let me on, then I took it to about 85 - gradually

Too right about inclines mate, on the motorway I was doing about 85 and then there was a slight slope, then it dropped to 75 at the most

There is a hill on the way to Uni, on a dual carriageway, which turns to 3 lanes with the addition of the crawler lane.

If I'm sitting at 70mph at the bottom of it, I'll be doing sub-60mph at the top

Tbh I'll miss it a bit too, because it's a decent car in good nick, but it's just so slow Looks like I'll be keeping it for a year longer than I expected at this rate, though.
