what are all the ways you can tell if a c20xe is the early/ late version of the engine?

very early one's have the 'coscast' casting mark on the head and have a dissy, late ones have a coilpack

thought so. in regards to the cambelt i thought early engines (which obviously need an early cambelt on them) had rounded teeth and the late ones had square? is this right?

or is that purely just what vauxhall slapped on it at the time

Second one isn't a standard plug cover. Late engines can also have Coscast heads.

my ex in my corsa has a coscast head and is a coil pack version

early - dizzy
late - dis/coilpack

early - flat flywheel
late - pot flywheel

early - round teeth cambelt/pulley
late - square teeth cambelt/pulley

The very very early ones had metal plug covers

Aye, theres COSCAST dizzy and dispak heads. There different as the dispak ones have two bolt hole lugs on the side of the head for the dispak mount.

The late coscast heads are very rare, and said to be the best of all std xe heads by a lot of people.
