go start progs, run then type in the box CMD, then type ipconfig when the black screen comes and hit enter it will tell you the DNS on that page and then after you have it just type exit/end and hit

I had XP on my laptop and it used to connect fine through connection sharing.

However, now my laptop has vista it's causing all sorts of problems on XBL.

I think you'll find it is. It has its merits, but falls down for the fact everything and every screen is setup for a typical dumb user (e.g. you). Therefore everything is pretty colours, huge icons and stupid menu systems that lead you round the houses to get to what you want to change (assuming that you'd be too dumb to actually want to change anything substaintial).

At least in XP you could have the settings up for your LAN connection within like 2 clicks. With vista, it leads you through a selection of annoying screens that require you to click through one by one completely unrelated to the task you want to achieve, in order to get access to something that looks more familiar (i.e. not designed like a fisher price toy).

Turn all that off then and stop crying about it, it's actually quite a good system when you get used to it, I had the same reservations.

oh yeh and another thing that annoys me about vista is how it does things for you, assuming you want it done without asking or telling.

For example, I've switched off my firewall and I'm now enabling ICS...

WTF, my firewall has been switched on along with file sharing and this and that...

ok ... turn firewall off again...

turn off file sharing and - wtf it turns firewall back on!

I said I want it off

etc.

To be honest I haven't really looked at why mine isn't working yet, just expected it to work when i plugged it in like it did in XP. I'll have a butchers tommorrow, but vista just winds me up.

Not been using vista for long (I removed it from my laptop before and put XP on) my new laptop had vista on it again and I cba to put xp back on.

I was enjoying Vista, but I just hate the way it feels like it treats you like a idiotic child.

How do you disable retarded mode in vista?
