I'm having some ideas about changing the shed that is kind of built on the side of my house (pics to follow). Only thing is the roof that joins the side of my house and goes over my shed and next doors (one piece) is asbestos. I know it has to be removed by a specialist etc, any idea how much this costs? It leaks and with the plans I have for the shed it'd have to go anyway so that my shed and next doors will be seperate.

Any info much appreciated

No idea - can vary as to what type of asbestos it is. Best bet is to find a removal specialist and they can give you a firm price.

ring your local council.

we did, and as long as you double wrap it withthick polythene sheets, they may ave somewhere you vcan take it FREE, as long as you don't use a mates van, best hir one for the day so you can prove your not 'TRADE'

We disposed of 470kg of the stuff... FREE.
But with Nottm City Council you can only have one FREE disposel per house per lifetime.

when you remove it, best do it when its rained/or wet ot so not to create dust etc.

the council would remove it for you... but that would cost.
or you can get a firm in to do it... but that would cost even more!!!

Ah right! I work for the local council, but didn't realise they'd do this. I'll ask around and see what they say.

Thanks for that.

Council will not touch asbestos they point you in the direction of an asbestos surveying company or removal company. I work for ARCA the Asbestos Trade Association - log onto www.arca.org.uk and find members in the area you live and give them a call if you require a piece testing log onto www.atac.org.uk and contact companies from ur area.

Roofs you can remove yourself, you need to wet the roof and remove it whole, wrap it in bubble wrap and ring ur local tip and see if they hold an asbestos waste licence and you can take it there and they dispose of it for you x

The scary thing is i worked for a roofing company a few years back. We used to cut asbestos sheeting with grinders and saws, dust everywhere, and were nev er even issued overallys or masks, let alone all the decontamination chambers and PPE you get nowadays. Thank god i left after two years, not a lifetime of exposure.

The new sheets aren't made of asbestos, Its a composite of different materials, as it is now illegal to manufacture or use anything aesbestos related.
