I have used dishwasher tablets after a headgasket. Worked fine. Just make sure to do a flush with just water afterwards.

We always use washing powder in the coolant system for flushing oil out and never had a problem. It breaks down the oil much better than just flushing through with water.

Wouldnt run with it in though just run it up for 5 minutes then drain and refill.

I used Daz washing powder in mine plenty of times.
Had the old porous head problem in my first XE and had to flush it through quite regularly.

Would put a cup of powder in the header tank the day before the flush was due to let it get up to temp and loosen all the emulsified oil.

Works a treat.

edit - just found this from when i originally posted about it. ended up a bit off topic though

i've seen a bottle of screen wash been added, to a galaxy, after the head gasket blew.... Actually did a good job... Lots of bubbles..... Strange but true.
