@ teletubbies set.

How have you done that Alex? Looks quite good! Is it just a Gaussian blur in photoshop job?

I bought a 10 stop filter yesterday and its great fun I can't wait to get home and play with them in photoshop. 40 second exposures during the middle of a sunny day are awesome

Field Blur in CS6. Most realistic out of focus blur feature I've seen yet. Much better than the old Lens Blur, imo.

Nice captures Scott, the second one is awesome.

Spent last night messing with this and it came out ok I guess. It was mainly an exercise to try and bring out texture in the leaves

some nice shots scotty, how do you rate the 70-300? I'm in need of something longer after my 70-210 bought the farm afew weeks back. I can't decide if i would prefer the extra length of the 300 or whether i should spring for a 70-200 and have some wide aperture goodness! The latter would probably be best with all the portraiture i seem to be doing at the moment but meh, its a shitload more money

I think you've caught the texture well there Rob, looks almost like you could touch the screen and feel the leaves. Was it naturally lit or did you use flash? For macro stuff you don't necessarily need fancy stuff, there's a good thread on TP about home made macro modifiers for on camera flash which looks like a good laugh

Thought i might as well add one from a recent shoot

It's Derek Achora! I went to see him live in Rhyl many years ago. But on a photography note its very well lit and a natural looking facial expression. Good job mate

I didn't use any flash for my photo, just my good old nifty fifty and I'm in the process of working through Tony Kuyper's and Sean Bagshaw's luminosity mask tutorials. First tutorials I have ever paid for but 100% worth it.

Good tutorials then? I've finished all my books for the minute and i'm in need of some reading material

Definitely a good read. There is also a load of video tutorials which are a great help too.

http://goodlight.us/ - have a look through the tutorials about the basics of luminosity masks. very handy tool for landscape photography but can be applied in all areas of photography really

The 70-300 is a superb lens for the money especially on a crop body. However I would cut my right arm off for a 70-200 2.8. With the new bodies over 20mp you can easily crop to 300mm without any quality loss.

hmmmmmmmm i'm still struggling over which to buy, portraits are mainly my thing so the 70-200 would be better suited, then perhaps worry about a teleconverter for anything longer

I haven't got anything with 20MP so couldn't really say. i have 16.2, 12.3, and 10.2

Went to Knockhill yesterday, first proper outing with the new camera. As I'm only using the 18-55 at the minute I was limited to where I could stand, moved about though and got some decent pics for a first time I think. Tried to capture the speed of them more than anything. Lots to learn yet though, these were just took in S mode at different settings throughout the day. Just cropped them for Facebook, hosted on tinypic for quickness so will probably lose a lot of quality. Will need to set up a Flickr account.

It was real dust from inside the barn. Not photoshopped in.
