ideally you want to have an iterest in the sport or have friends that are, then get yer arse down the local skatepak and make some friends

i can skate a little and i have a few friends that can skate pretty well and stoke plaza isnt too far from here, not to mention urbis in manchester usually has a few skaters about

but what kind of camera do i need really? a dslr?

id like to do band photos aswell too.. would i be able to use the same camera?

You'll need a DSLR for good results as you'll want to be able to set shutter speeds (to capture the action).

Something like the Canon 400D or Nikon D40x/D60 might be a good starting point

Just go down to a gig a set up, maybe ask the band if they wouldn't mind you doing some shots, send them the pics you get for free.
