You cant rev it more than 4k..then the engine managment light comes on...the limiter is at 4k, and is really slow getting there...but some times it goes to 6 quickly :S what can it be?

Sensor of some sort.
Do a search for paperclip test and do that. It'll give you an indication of what it could be.

Mine done this and after Vaux tested the fault in turned out to be the rev knocking sensor.
But the 4K limiter kicks in because the ECU sets its self to safe settings as it thinks there is a problem with the car.
The idea is that when the ECU detects a prob with the car rather than just grinding to a complete hault it defaults to safe settings to allow you to drive to the nearest garage/stopping place.
Chances are that it will only be a fault with a sensor and not the car/engine it's self.
The paper clip test can work however I brought a tester from Halfords which does exactly the same thing but I found it really difficult to be sure I record the code correctly.
My advise get Vaux the run a fault finding check. £50-£60.

My advise, don't pay that coz it's rediculous. If your gonna get it done, find a garage with Tech 2. It's cost you half that.

I'd go with that.

I agree if you can find a garage with the right gear to run the fault finding checks then get them to do it.
I tried several place round near me and each of them said that all they would do is drive it down to vaux and get them to find the fault and then fix it them selves.
The point I was trying to make is that it is easy to get the fault codes wrong using the paper clip test and then you could end up replacing the wrong parts.
Especially with older cars, my ECU had sh1t loads of codes stored up in it.
So many that the guy at Vaux said he would have to wipe the memory and re run the check as ehe could be sure which faults where genuine.

Wiping the memory is easy. Take the negative lead off the battery for an hour or two.

p1723944 - If you struggle to read the codes from the ECU then your just dumb sorry but its a piece of piss with a pen and a bit of paper just count the flashes and it saves the lad the £60 just for the test from vaux.
As said, do the paperclip test and once you know the faults post them up on here and we will help you out.
It will be a sensor or wiring to the sensor which is at fault.
