Rite.... the plan is to bore out the inside of the throttle body as much as possible and fit a new enlarged butterfly to suit.

Anyone ever had any experience of such a mod, any pitfalls?

Pointless.
The standard throttle body is plenty big enough.

Whats the spec of your 1400 btw? Seems like a decent power output?

if your gonna ignore people and do it then i'd think again as you'll prob end up boring it out too much and cutting into one of the tb waterways.

in his profile... lots of power with no mention of remap?

but then again his in car entertainment description is funny.

curently running the mantzel and the waterways are not in use. Got the provisions to do it at work on the CNC lathes so can do a proper job

are you running a 1.4 or 1,6 lower inlet manifold

1.4 lower inlet, didnt think the 1.6 lower inlet was any different?

And no it hasnt had a remap but it needs it

ports are considerably larger in the 1.6 lower inlet will make more difference than boring out your tb

"To a large extent, the power and torque out put on any engine is dependent on the volume of air its capable of drawing in. Research shows that the standard GM throttle bodies fitted to most Vauxhall engines are undersized and act as a bottle-neck to the inlet charge, pegging back power and torque. To over come this we dismantle the OE throttle body and use a CNC lathe to enlarge the diameter of the unit, as well as installing a new, bigger throttle disc and low profile spindle to suit. Typically, this results in an increase in full throttle cross sectional area of between 10 and 20%. The result? Improved torque and power outputs usually in the order of 4 to 7 bhp, as well as superior throttle response and a sharper feel to the engine. All throttle body reworking is carried out on an exchange basis"

But i wouldn't do anymore that 3mm increase in total diammeter

you could also look for a 1600 head and or cams! Or a complete engine

Spare throttle body opened out and new butterfly made on the CNC mill. Will post pics later and any change in performance when its fitted

3mm larger round the butterfly, but on the air filter side of the butterly opened it up by about 4ish then tapers down to 3 jus b4 the butterfly, will post pics soon. looks good

I wanted it fitted ages ago, but i'm off to spain this fri so aint got round to it yet lol

As soon as its on i'll post wit results.

Just hope it idles ok, if the butterfly hasnt sealed in the bore all that well it might b tetchy. Suck it n c!

If it idles high, the ecu should close the idle motor a bit more until its happy with the idle speed.
It will be fine, unless it closes the motor completely, and it still idles too high, then it'll bring the ecu light on.

Wonder what the bore is on an AGG engine?

Got it fitted. No running problems whatsoever, idles fine and runs fine. Induction roar is a bit louder with a very aggressive sucking sound and the exhaust has taken on a bit more of a "bark"

Throttle is even more responsive, and seems to run a bit more freely at the higher revs. Guess coupled with the mantzel it works well

Worth doing chaps!
