I've been looking around and thinking of buying a Universal back box for my 12v, i understand most, if not all, will require a little modification to fit, but will it do anything not so good to my car?
i don't want it to end up sluggish (more so than it already is) but at the same time i'd drather have a bit more of a deeper tone to it.
Any help appreciated.

You wont get a decent tone from the 12v unless you remove the centre silencer....

If budget is a problem, then a universal back box will do. . .I can't see it doing anything untoward to your car.
On the other hand, a range of manufacturers make 12v specific rear silencers, which won't require any modification. When a universal one will need modification to fit, it will be to the back box to reduce the bore size, not the car etc.
But yeah, I recommend buying a copy of Total Vauxhall and looking at all the shop adverts, which normally have 12v exhausts listed.
I know all this, because I looked at getting one for mine.
If you also want a deeper note, more from induction, de-restrict the air box
