new car picked up yesterday so why not start a project thread. i could never be bothered to do one with the last car but i feel like making the effort with this one so here it goes.

for anyone who doesnt know this is the old car

did look pretty tidy at one point but due to various problems and it not being tidy enough anymore to spend anymore money on i decided to strip it and start again.

ended up taking this home with me on sunday

not really too sure on the plans for now but i think the gsi kit off the old car is going on with a bit of smoothing and custom bits and bobs. anyways let me know what you reckon

finally got my arse in gear and done a bit of work. fitted my de badgered grill and stuck my wheels on off the other car. not really sure if i like them on this car. going to wait till its lowered and see what it looks like. also gave it the turtle wax colour magic treatment and im pretty happy with the results. ignore the scuff in the bumper. its getting my gsi kit on it soon so i dont really care . that is all for now

started work on the gsi bumper today. it was in worse state than i thought and had been bodged up quite a bit by the previos owner so i though whilst im repairing the cracks and re attaching the mountings point why not give it a bit of a smooth?. started by grinding it back to bare plastic and doing a few holes for the fibreglass to key into and then just started building up the layers. needs a bit more maybe and then its the same for the other side and then it needs a skim of filler. not really sure how it will look but i think it will turn out ok. if anyone has a pic of a smoothed gsi bumper then post it up because i cant remember seeing one

done a bit more work with the bumper. ground the fibreglass back a bit and started building the filler up. looks ok now just needs a bit more sanding and a couple of imperfections filling in and then i might give it a bit of primer to see if it matches the lines of the bumper. never done anything like this in my life before so it looks a bit messy at the moment but theres only one way of learning

hmmm me likes the the look of that. not too sure on the number plate recess being smoothed though but i cant be arsed doing that anyway. still undecided on splitter choice. i know everyone will say standard gsi one but i dont have it and i want to be a bit different. not sure to try smoothing a laguna splitter in or not. dont think i really wat to as the car is going to be pretty low and i dont want to crack it

Good plans I'd love to do the debadged grill thing on my Gsi front but I just wouldn't know how!
Be different and try the laguna splitter imo

bit more progress. offered the bumper up to the old car just to see how it all lines up after bonding the brackets back on. done a bit of bodging to make the debadged grill fit also. think its gonna look rather shweet. only problem is i want to get it done and painted so i can get it slapped on the car

buy a slatted debadge grille, the one you have now looks cheap and tacky as it doesn't fit properly

the grille i have does fit properly just the bumper wasnt screwed on or anything so it sits a bit higher up than in the pic. also got gifted a set of these before. just need to clean my 2.0 calipers up and give them a lick of paint. 1.4 brakes scare me

nooooooo. everything in this thread now is going on the new black one the blue one is getting scrapped once its been robbed of all its parts. the bumper was on the blue one just to see how it looked. i couldnt be arsed taking the bumper off the black one. just need to get on to dave a about some gaz coilovers to sort the height problem out and then i need to get the rest of the kit sprayed up and the back bumper smoothed to match. and then its xe time

just been offered some rather cheap powder coating via work so im thinking of getting the wheels done in white. i know i will regret it for cleaning reasons but what do people think. bearing in mind gsi kit and slammed.

got bored this weekend so managed to get quite a bit done. first up was get rid of the nasty standard exhaust and swap it for my full bfo system and decat. sounds much nicer now just need to get the inlet side of things sorted.

next thing i got done was changing the standard door speakers for some jbl components. seeing as this cars got electric mirrors and i have a set of covers off one with DIY mirrors i stuck the tweeter in the hole with a bit of super glue

sounds much clearer than the standard stuff and has a bit of kick now.
last up was fitting smoked side reps and black projector lights.

just need some rear MHWs to finish the back end off. that is all for now
