which is best?
4-2-1 or 4-1
i got told its 4-2-1. how much brake would one of these gove a 1.4 16v ?

They are both better in their own right. It makes sense. 4-2-1s give better mid range torque, where as the 4-1 is better for top end hence they are more suited to cars with a higher power band like race cars and cars with higher lift cams. The 4-2-1 is better suited for fast road.

4-2-1 for smaller capacity cars generally works better as over 2ltr wont noitce the loss at low rpm seen with 4-1.
not much bhp if any will be seen with a manifold alone. money would be better spent on an inlet manifold for your 14xe to start with

A decent manifold coupled with a good system will give around 5-8 imo. They are good mods for the money. For me the exhaust system is the best starting point.
