I'm looking for a HDMI lead to go from my home cinema system to the TV. It only needs to be around 1m. Is there really that much difference when going with an expensive lead?
It's just a HD upscaler, so it's not true HD.

No difference by buying expensive ones, especially over 1m.

Far too expensive.
I paid 4 quid for 3 metres from ebuyer, feels very high quality, especially since i was expecting cheap rubbish.

panasonic give free ones now with their products. very good too... cause im fussy with cables, usually spend around £40

If you are spending 40 quid on an hdmi cable you are wasting at least 30 quid of it though.

was it a 2007 model? the 2006 ones dont come with them
ive never bought an HDMI cable personally. the last cable i bought was VGA - VGA and that was £40 so used that as an exmaple. i mostly have monster cables for my audio... tend me be quite good and expensive lol
£75 for a 1m HMDI cable! bit too much imo

What is better about it?
How can you tell the difference between a cheap hdmi cable and a good one, especially over short distances?

I have 2meter cables, and yes I can defo tell the difference between cheap and good cable. Im using Cambridge Audio 89 DVD player, top marks for pic and Im very happy with my setup now.

Sounds like you got a dodgy cable then as for a cable to be called a HDMI cable it needs to have an error rate so low that it would not be noticable i.e. 1 pixel incorrect ever couple seconds (that 1 pixel in 1 frame so 1/50 or 1/60 of a second)
Anything more than that and it does not adhere to the HDMI standard.
As said a digital signal is a digital signal. It either works or doesn't i.e. you see blocky picture or perfect. Digital cables cannot affect how the picture looks in terms of brightness, colour etc
The only time you should start to see a difference is where you are running longer cables

Maybe was a dodgy cable but still seems to be much better! I dont think the cable is dodgy, digital signals can still be effected if the cable is cheap and not sheilded like more expensive cables!
