It arrived this morning and i love it! I can work out the time on it within a couple of seconds so its not going to be annoying, and its something a bit different. Ian, I will check the voltage for you later but I cant be arsed to get out of bed right now to look

It's about 9v ac i think.
Has to be AC as the 60hz is used to generate the clock signal.

I was thinking that, cos the 555 chips we used for the J/K flip flop counters were running on DC.

The 60hz is generated from the 60hz ac mains as most of the simple binary clocks are.
Its a really really simple circuit and doesn't need a crystal when you've got a perfectly good clock in the mains.
