Its a pity peak power is supposedly at 6100rpm although it feels like its at 5900rpm.

The S1 106 Rallye fares better, peak power is at 7200rpm & the limiter is at 7300rpm.

one of my mates the other day started his car up after it had bin standing ages and hit the limiter just because he wanted to show me what it sounded like since he put on the induction kit (which has apparently given him 5bhp) he then asked me to do it to mine and i was like errm NO because it was cold anyway and i dont see the need to damage the engine. i would possibly consider it once its warm but even then i dont see the point.

I wouldn't buy a car off most of the people in this thread Hitting your rev limiter most nights? Do you drive round like you are on a race track all the time or something?

Dont think my car has hit the rev limiter anytime in the past 12 months. Not even by accident as when I'm driving fast, I'm paying attention...

i've had my car 4 years and think i've probably hit the limiter twice, both times was a lack of concentration

as said by many people i dont see the point as the moment you hit the limiter you are slowing back down I just cant understand people who hit it before everygear change

Why do you care about hitting the limiter, i dont do it myself cause i know exactly when to change, but its there to limit engine damage.

Must be a chav thing, I might let you off if you have no rev counter aha

Yes in your 1.6 8 valve!!!

If you hadn't of been such a girl and got a gti you'd of been constantly hitting the limiter in 1st / 2nd.

16v's Pull hard to higher rpms... GTi limiter is 7250 rpm and most standard make peak power about 6800 - 7000 rpm, so it's v.easy to go 'ding ding ding' quite often (though you look like a twat).

Mine however has a 7800 rpm limiter (looks like 8000 rpm in car), while I'm making peak power of like 7200-7400 rpm. So I rarely hit the limiter now, though if it was standard limiter I'd have to hit the limiter to get the most out of my engine

Not a chav thing (well for some it is lol), but in some cars (16vs) that make peak power high up, the revs raise quicker the closer you get to the limiter, so it can catch you sometimes (especially if your trying to hold it in a gear like 2nd for as long as possible - I can hit 70 on the speedo in 2nd lol).
