When I learnt it, I called it SQL, when I worked with it in industry, everyone called it sequel so I jumped on the bandwagon.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2524524540025172110

The introducer uses MySequel but the guy who wrote the book says it properly

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4567104036778249401

This guy works for MySQL AB and also uses ess-cue-ell. I'm with him.

Its an acronym, not a mnemonic.

So if I went for some job interviews which required a working knowledge of SQL, do I pronounce it S-Q-L then?

That is a true story, one of the clunkiest, most complicated systems I've ever came across.

Current company has some mega expensive/complicated SAP setup and they have access databases sitting on desktops all over the world doing things the million dollar program should.

(I seen this was 3 years old before I posted, SAP is just that bad)

S-Q-L here, but i know people in the industry that call it either...

Kyle T - see if you can get hold of the manual, it's pretty difficult to learn the whole thing and there will always be times when you need to look at the manual but i've learnt a shed load from reading it over the last few months (and this is from someone with a degree in Music Tech, so go figure )
