Are you smoking crack?

Have you seen the size of the new Civic Steve?

I drove a 2.2 diesel one the other day, it's definitely not a Corsa sized car.

Steve managed to tell from a picture of one of the wheels it was the same size as the corsa and it had a better interior.

I was going to quote bits, but im on a timescale here, things to do, dogs and cats to see

(please note the brake size, then think of the usual Corsa/Nova larger upgrade......). They must be awful...

"as for the brakes they are a 308mm vented disk up front with a larger caliper, the reason for being blue again is cost, as being built in an opel factory they can dictate those small things on being cost effective, as for upgrades, there is going to be the AP's as per the astra, possibly 343mm vented disk and 4 pots but in saying that the standard more than does the job for a 190ps powerplant, brembos as standard would push the price up and its intended to undercut the clio 197.

Mind you the new leon cupra was meant to have brembos fitted as standard but where found not to be up for the job so the R32 single pots with larger disks brought in and are much better for that car over the 4 pot brembos.

Diffuser was found to creat down pressure during wind tunnel testing so its more than just a bolt on, i seen all the range colour range a couple of weeks ago and it is a well put together little, well not so little anymore car which will most probably out handle a standard set up astra through the twists and bends, the recaros are most impressive and more supportive than what we have fitted in the astra,

my wife has ordered one in black which in this range is the colour to go for
you can put any of that info up to shut this Steve up as he really has no idea what he is on about, more so it appears he may be a tad jealous he isn't getting one to be slagging it off so much without coming across one"

Amen Mr VXR owner...

pmsl someone else with the blinkers on

Yes, I am pretty small. The steering wheel was big nor small. I'd say the same size as a Corsa B post-97 with airbag (3 spoke one). Definitely not as big as the 2 spoke pre-97.

one thing that strikes me (from pics on page 1)

the car looks really high and narrow

For me.... a hot htach MUST have 4 wheels right at the corners, be wide, and low.

still undecided about it. Would def NOT buy one new.

I can see what you mean AK, it did come across as a big car.

But then again, if Vauxhall made it like a traditional hot hatch, it would get slatted in the press for not having as much space as the rivals.

Although, the boot was surprisingly small in it. Loads of rear leg room though unless the seats are all the way back, which is a long way!

suppose... they have to make cars that care really 4/5 seater, have space, have the toys, have the comfort, safety etc.

They cant be as focussed as i'd like them to be as Betty from No 87 wouldnt like it that way

Might look more appealing to me when lowered, on white 5 spokes.... stripped out :O

Totally agree, which is why i say most new not hatches look like mini mpvs, ie high n narrow.

Surely Vauxhall have the meriva for small and practical, why can't the corsa be a bit smaller / wider.

Yeah have to agree with you here chap.
I do think IMO (no doubt I will get flamed for saying this) but I feel for what you get looks-wise [interior and exterior] (obviously I haven't driven one yet but I have had the VXR experience) that it is overpriced a bit. It's (feel free to correct me if I am wrong) £15,995 otr that's without adding the extras that most people would probably want ie:alloys, interior trims and the like... I just feel its not really worth that kind of money. And I recognise and respect the fact that vauxhalls have improved significantly especially since the VXR "brand" has been intoduced I just personally feel I would not spend that amount on a hot hatch/supermini (whatever you want to call it) vxr corsa. But then again everyone has different opinions etc, that's just mine....

The Meriva is much higher and narrower compared to that. Remember those pics of the car are on about a 3 inch platform.

I see what you mean DBenson but I think you'll be able to wangle extras and the dealership for not a lot extra. This is undercutting the Clio by quite a bit & with extras that you pay extra for in the Clio, such as the seats.

The Corsa VXR retails at £15,595 iirc.

Are you serious?

My mum drives a Corsa C, she's 59. She could have had a Meriva, but she didn't like the look of it. Yes, it's more spacious, but it's uglier.

The Corsa outsold the Meriva for this exact reason, and Vauxhall aren't going to change a car which has to be -

a) spacious
b) practical
c) reliable
d) as good/better than the competition

to impress a few people who want it to be a 106 GTi

It's not predominantly a sports car, the 1.2 is the big seller, and the whole range, being based on the same car, have to look the same, bizarrely.

The new Corsa isn't as tall as it appears in pictures, yes it's taller than the C, but it has to be, because of the stupid pedestrian safety laws.

Doesn't look that tall here after all.
