Right, i know this aint a car and a lot of you aren't bikers, but i thought i'd post this up as its a liitle different to the usual projects on here.

Anyway, i used to race bikes. I've had all sorts! I started out on a 125 gp bike (a proper 125, not these hair dryers you see on the road! lol), then i moved onto a Honda CBR 600, then a Ducati 748R, then the last bike i raced was a Honda VFR400. When my old man died i lost interest and gave up, so i decided to get a road bike, but i didn't go straight for my test, intead i just did a CBT and got a 125.

Anyway I've been reading about and riding bikes since i was 6, and at the end of last year i went and passed my full test and bought a Suzuki Bandit 600 with the intension of building a Streetfighter out of it. (Streetfighter is just a term for the aggressive styling of these bikes). I bought it cheap at £1000! Its done 12,000 miles only but was very tatty! As soon as i got it home i was pulling it apart, so i don't have any pics of when i got it, but here are some of its progress.......

The above pic shows it bare but with a Yamaha R6 subframe. Below is a pic of the original subframe, which was originally welded on, so i had to cut it off. The reason for the R6 subframe is because i'm putting on an R6 seat unit. I had to weld new brackets on to the main frame so that the R6's aluminium frame could be bolted on.

Below is a pic of the engine. i'm going to give this a good clean as its full of oil and grit from the road. As small as it look it still weighs a fecking ton!

A few bargains later i started a mock up of how i want it to look

Now all i need to do is strip it all down and send the frame, subframe, wheels, and other bits and pieces away for powder coating. But at the moment things have come to a grinding hault as i've broken my hand!
I'll post updates if theres enough interest and when i get going on it again!

Wonderboy; i was drilling a bracket and the drill "grabbed", twisted me hand and i heard a crack, looked down and 2 fingers were pointing the wrong way! lol

richysport; its going to be black and white theme - mainly to do with the tight budget i'm on so no polishing on this one. i'm stuck for idea's as to what to do with the exhaust but i'm sure i'll think of something!

Right i've made a little more progress now that my hand is all fixed up!

I started to strip it all down and now its ended up like this. The pic is the main frame.

Here's a pile of parts that are going to powder coating aswell as the frame in the pic above.......

And here's a pic of the shit i've got to work out what i want to keep!

The to do list is to finish off a bit of welding on the main frame, get the tyres/discs off the wheels aswell as the wheel bearings out, and generally tidy up my garage while most of the bike is away at the powder coaters

Right here it is.

I've got everything back from the powder coating place.

mmmmm, white wheels with some nice new sticky Dunlop Sportmax Qualifier tyres!

Box of other white bits

Frame and swing arm

Assemble the forks and bottom yoke

I then set about building up a rolling chassis

That was yesterdays work. Today i set about getting the engine in. I got up early and painted the engine white. Its not all going white though, the side cases and other bits will be satin black.

To protect my newly powder coated frame from being scratched i wrapped ome tape round it

And heres the final pics of as it stands now

Thanks, glad its liked

Tom, its a '98 R6 seat unit/subframe i've ditched the standard lights with two small ones built into the undertray. For the exhaust i was thinking of 2 high level cans like the new R1's or a silencer underneath the engine with a little slash cut outlet on each side.?

I'm on a bit of a mission to have it all built by 31st March so i can ride it to Donington Park with my mates to see round 3 of the World Superbikes championship.

The to do list is, sort out the wiring and try start it Friday/Saturday. Hopefully the R6 sub frame battery box will have turned up then. Also the tank, front mudguard/seat and undertray should be back from painters. I aslo need a new chain and sprocket, and a new rear calliper as its siezed up. The front brakes are being ditched for some bigger 4 pots my mates giving me off his GSX-R 1100.

I'm pretty pleased with the budget i'm on too. So far, including buying the bike, i've spent £1500.
