Gearbox went on me last nite, been playin up for couple weeks now
realy struggled to get it into gear and even out of gear
Selector obviously gone
mayaswell put a new (or second hand 1 on) as would need to remove anyway
How much roughly am i lookin at for a gearbox and fitting? (x16xe)

im 99% confident it will be the linkage, not the box

oh rite, i'l get my mate to check linkage first, or is this something i can check ?
not too clued up on engines and gearboxes yet

yes, gear linkage
had the same problem few days ago, now fixed...gear linkage set

so which bit is the gear linkage ? 
the s-shape bit that people change for a short shift 1 ?

yes. remove everything from the selector shaft (under bulkhead) to the selector fork on the box, strip it down, clean it, replace worn bushes and stick it back together.

LOL, turned out to be the clutch cable
just needed tightening, 5 min job plus i could have done it in the dark and saved me walking to work for 3 days
So all sorted now, but prob gonna change clutch soon anyway, £50 plus the dreaded aint bad
