hi all
i hope this isnt too much of repitition from previous threads!
I have a 1.2 8v corsa and am in the process of securing an engine from a nova ad gettin it into this corsa.
So what steps do i take in removing my current engine and gearbox
I am an amateur mechanic but am in no way afraid of work and have tools at my disposal.
ive attmepted trivial feats in the past, change of springs shocks, change of brake set up, fitting of brake hoses. Changed sump
oil changes fuel filter etc. and i have stripped the car out before.
So i no my way around the car but need advice!
Have no idea where to start!
thanks

It shouldn't be too hard to get the engine out. Start by stripping off the water pipes, then unplug everything and undo the mounts.
- That's what i'd do I'm taking mine out soon

get the haynes manual, pretty useful!
Otherwise this is the general proceedure, done it three times on my corsa;
1) drain coolant and oil, also remove coolant hoses and radiator (optional but prevents it being damaged)
2)depressurise fuel system (remove filler cap) and disconnect fuel lines (make sure you label them)
3)remove driveshafts, watch out for gearbox oil spillage!
4)remove wiring loom including cables to battery
5)remove exhaust manifold
6) remove air inlet system, and tape over throttle body (depending on whether you give a shit about the engine) and disconnect the throttle cable and clutch cable and also undo the 13mm bolt securing the gear linkage.
7)put straps or rope/chains around the engine, and attach to lifting tackle (ie crain or winch)
8)jack the front of the car high enough to slide the engine underneath, and support on axle stands.
9)undo engine mounts (with engine secured by lifting tackle) and gently and slowly lower the engine onto some cardboard (optional but makes it easier to slide out)
10)with the engine on the cardboard get a mate to hold it steady while you remove the straps or rope or whatever you decide to use, then slide it out of the way.
11) the rest is pretty self explanatory by now
