Well the car running rich is why , but it could be down to a whole list of sensors

or lambda not switching
or cat not working upto scratch.....need more info,

High emitions from running lean ? Hows that ?

u may also need ur engine rebuilding eg: new seals, lambda sensor and possibly new leads. you can get this done for about £100 including oil and fuel filter change. Although, if your car has been running rich for a long time, a new CAT will be needed aswell.
