check out the movie trailers on the Apple site. You have the choice of downloading HD versions or just standard def ones.

the most common at the moment are

720p (1280 x 720 @60hz)
1080i (1920 x 1280 @30hz)

p = progressive scanning system
i = interlaced scanning system

Steve, theres a few HD clips on www.mininova.org, one of the best ones i found was a space shuttle launch and video of the earth from space. www.hdinmotion.com also has one 1080p clip to download and loads of 720's. Ill see if i can find the shuttle link now...

It will support both Steve but it's preferred resolution will probably be 720p.

720p is the more stable of the 2 resolutions, running at 60hz. 1080i is obviously a higher resolution but only runs at 30hz.

The new Sony Bravia panels and other LCDs/Plasmas are offering true HD resolution, i.e 1080p. This combines the best of both 720p and 1080i HD DVD players will also be running in this resolution.

For instance I have run my 360 through my Bravia at both 720p and 1080i. To my eye I can see no difference in image quality (though it probably does exist).

My point being that your TV will support both, you may find one looks better than the other though.

I'm in the same boat as you mate, TV support 1080i but not p. I can't see the jump to 1080p being that great to warrant shelling out another few K on visual gear to be honest.

it wont display full 1080 resolution natively, but will still play the HD channels on sky etc which are all 720p at the moment IIRC. The quality of the panel has a lot to do with it too, not just the resolution, and toshiba aren't a bad make

I'm not sure what the Bush is. The Hitachi he posted has the same res though.

I wouldn't worry about it, when HD DVDs become the norm HD players will be able to downscale effectively.

If you were to try and always have the latest stuff you'd be skint
