TBH, i have noticed differences.

Car goes through the revs a bit smoother. MPG increased. thats all.

As far as power, i doubt it. Sainsburys 99 RON does the same and it's a damn sight cheaper.

i know it does help bump up power, but on N/A cars it may mean it revs free-er but the way people say like mines so much faster when running on optimax.

I bought it when i was 18 with a 1.4 but i knew it made sod all difference.

Ive used it in my 1.6. It doesnt make it faster but it did feel slightly more responsive lower down the revs.

I use it just before MOT time as they say it reduces emmissions

I just use it purely for saftey, a fuels RON rating is basically just its resistance to detonation.

Cars with knock sensors (especially turbocharged cars) will advance ignition timing if they are detecting zero knock which will increase performance a bit.

my car runs like a load of crap on 95, hesitates idles rough etc etc, but then i have had it mapped for 98+ and advanced the timing yet further with my SPS device, so i have to run it on 98 octane. I lose about 5-10bhp from running it on 95

A lot of cars ECU's "learn" over a period of time. It takes about 5-6 tanks of fuel in a Subaru for the ECU to make sufficient changes to feel a difference.
