My mate had components in his rear trim cards.
Also seen one or 2 people on here that have had proper custom made rear cards for the speakers to go in.
Think my mate just cut the hole out and put a ring of MDF behind it though so probably wasn't the best way to do it

I dunno, i only have standard speakers in the rear of my corsa but if i fade them out and only have the fronts theres a really really big difference in the sound. Sounds really weird only have front speakers on. Much greater 'surround' effect with rears in.

I should have mentioned subwoofers to be honest, If you dont have a sub then yeh speakers in the rear are fine and create as you say a surround effect, but if you have a subwoofer, the bass can get muffled by the rear speakers as they are between you and the sub, but if you dont then you get all the bass and can in theory turn your sub/amp down a bit,
If you dont have a sub/amp it is recommended to run more bass through the rear speakers and have the fronts set for more treble
