From a sensible perspective neither of them are very good first cars imo, but if i had to have one i'd have the vitara. Minis are way to small

Whats wrong with a Mini as a first car? Loads of spare parts and specialists about, the engines are relatively simple. Great fun to drive, nippy and handle really well.

Lack of power steering, lack of refinement, not particularly easy to drive, expensive for what they are, quite expensive to maintain when something major goes. Like I said to me it just does'nt seem ideal, but ive never got the whole mini thing not really into them.

They don't need power steering! They're very easy to drive, gear boxs are actually pleasent to use. They're not expensive to maintain at all, countless parts in scrapyards etc and brand new replacement panels are very cheap. The Mini scene is a lot bigger than Vauxhall, they are expensive because ones in good condition now fetch a premium.

They are quite cramped however and aren't ideal for passengers, although it is possible.

my next door neighbour also has one, and she is tiny. she doesnt seem to have trouble with it either
