ive just installed my 12" pioneer subwoofer, along with a kenwood 1800w mono amp. the setup seems ok but i have a few problems. the amplifier does not turn off even when the ignitioin key is out. the powerlight is always on. i was wondering if i connected the remote wire to the wrong place? i have a JVC KD-LHX501 Head unit. i connected it to a red wire.

Also, when i listen to music loud, the amp shuts it self down, and i have to turn the head unit off for a few secs, then switch it back on in order for the amp to work again. why is this happening what have i done wrong?

ps: the seems ok as well, the cable is quite thick and i have sanded down the area which i placed it. could it have anything to do with the remote wire?

you connected the remote to the permanent live, connect it to a blue wire with a white stripe down it (sometimes just blue)

your amp is going into protection, what amp is it, what guage cable are you using?

also, check the voltage of the battery while in use, could be going into protection due to being under powered

what size enclosure are you using for the 3004?

i am using a 4 gauge cable, i have got a sealed 12" box for the 3004, it aint nothing too big, i got it from halfords, its pretty compact.

how can i prevent it from underpowering?

i am using a kenwood kac-9152d AMP

anopther question is, the 3004 sub is dual voice coil. i have connected both voice coils to the two different + and - channels. is this correct? or shuld i connect the two + (pluses) to one channel and the two - (minuses) to the other?

Your enclosure for the sub could be too small

but why would that make the amp shut down? if the enclosure is small it would only lose quality wouldnt it?

If the enclosure is too small there is too much pressure when the sub moves and the cone cannot move enough, this in turn creates feedback on the electro magnet which travels down to the amp and the amp shuts itself off to protect itself. or something like that, thats my understanding anyway hopefully someone will correct me with proper technical terms,

try a bigger enclosure and see what happens

ive sorted the remote wire, i connected it to the blue wire and its perfect now.

however the only problem now is that when the sub is thumpin hard bass at abit of a high volume, the amp tends to shut down and come back on after 30 seconds. i have double checked the earth, it seems fine, i sanded everywhere arouind the surface down so it has good contact, it still hasnt helped, what could the problem be?

From what you described, no that isnt the same, as you said you have one voicecoil attached to each speaker channel. Am I correct, or have I just misread it?

at the moment i have each voice attached to one channel. e.g. the two POSITIVE voice coils are connected to ONE POSITIVE channel on the amp, and the two NEGATIVE voice coils are attached to ONE NEGATIVE terminal. am i making sense? it is exactly like the picture which i posted.

Ok, yes that makes sense, which means that the sub is running at 2 ohms as you said. Have you checked the voltage the amp is getting?

ok i htink ive kind of come to a conclusion. when the deep basslines hit in, the lights on the car really dim. i think this might mean that the alternator isnt able to charge efficiently (am i wrong?) the amp may be abit too powerful for it im guessing. could this be the case?
