Hiya,

my first post on here but i was just wondering........

Ive been having problems with my 1.2 16v corsa for a while now and i was wondering if anyone could help....

For the past year its been losing power in 1st & 2nd gears, especially when pulling away from traffic lights, feels like you're driving an electric scooter for about a second at around 4000rpm then picks up, doesnt do it all the time but every now and again.

Took it to vauxhall to have diagnosed but they said the diagnostics showed nothing wrong with it, he cleaned the afm, throttle body and fitted new spark plugs, kind of fixed the problem for about 2 days then it was back.

Anyway ive just left it but today the ecu light has come on on the dash and the car has become very juddery in all gears apart from 5th. The light will come on for about 2mins then go off, then come back on again after a while.

Was just wondering if anyone thinks this could be the AFM cos ive read a few topics on here about it, dont really want to pay vauxhall £40 though for them to tell me the same thing or that its the o2 sensor if it might not be....

Can anyone help, or give me a bit of advise about what to do, wld be very grateful anyway....

if it starts cutting out all the time mate it could be EGR valve... happened to me recently the bastard lol. (do paper clip test) code for it is 4 7 4 7 4 7 etc

if not.... on my last corsa (1.4 16v) it started losing serious power - by that i mean slower than a 1.0 litre !! eventually took it to the garage.... needed cambelt, water pump, pulleys, tensioners etc

Its the Idle Air Control Valve, this engine is notorious for it.

mine does exactly the same. the garage i took it to told me it was the o2 sensor, so i fitted a new one and that didnt make it better. they then thought it could be the coil pack and plugs so i changed them . mine is still sick

Disconnect your battery for 1 hour, then reconnect, the ECU should be clear.

Do you have any mates who work in a garage that have access to a fault code reader and are able to look at/clear the faults?

These engines are riddled with kids toys! Like the air flow meter, idle stepper motor, both mine went within 4 weeks of each other.

no, i dont, n vauxhall want £40 just to put it on diagnostics

n when i said it drives fine now, that aint really true, just noticed that it really struggles sometimes when starting, like the idle control has been setup by the ecu too low

For 40notes you can get a brand new idle/stepper motor jobby as eventually it will probably pack up as they are prone to.

just to say thanx to people for there suggestions, bought a new idle air control valve £40 and afm £50 off ebay.

Put the idle air control valve in first n it completely sorted the problem so maybe i didnt really need the afm, changed it anyway tho

Well you've less chance of having a problem for a while fingers X as the air flow meters usually pack up on these engines, i changed both within 4 weeks of each other as they were fewked!
