As the cost of petrol keeps increasing, I've been looking at taking the bike test and getting a bike. The only thing that puts me off is how dangerous they are, but they're great fun I can also insure something ten times faster than my Corsa for a few hundred quid!

Anyway, been speakin to my mate who knows his stuff and he's saying a 125cc (Aprilia RS 125) will be too fast and I'll probably kill myself, so he says get a 50cc one instead.

Just after some advice really? What are the best first bikes? What test will I need to do ? I've gotta full UK car driving license...any advice appreciated

Toattly fucking wrong,

Yes some do ride like nutters BUT the majority of accidents are when drivers in cars do not see them and knock them off,

Read the post oin offday about somebodys uncle, im sure he would like you saying his uncle was at fault...

I think if you want to take the risk and enjoy the bike then go for it, just dont expect and sympathy if you fuck up and its your fault - SAME WITH CARS!

(I cannot spell for toffee's,)

That's exactly what both my parents and family keep saying, but it's so much cheaper and more fun than a 1.2 Corsa!

My Corsa doesn't have airbags or anything anyway, so should anything happen to me in that then there isn't much hope, same as on a bike really

bikes are as dangerous as u treat them in my opinion,

fair enough the dangers of a bike are more obvious but its tyhe same as a fast car u drive it fast u risk, bikes u ride them how ur tought and treat ever twist and turn of a road with the chance of being in danger for any amount of reason when on a bike,

but as saidbikes can be fun and dangerous but so can cars, u have to have the respect for the road and the bike to know the limits of saftey

nothing against ur opinion lil_john,

Gaz- fuck off, i meant its too easy for a bike too slip. moron

Rcb- id love one but im actually scared to,

Fair enough, the corsa doesnt have bags but what would you rather:

Cataputed off a wall naked or catabulted off a wall with a cage or frame around you?

Thats the way i see it anyway.

Hope you see sense.

Yeah that's the way I see it aswell BUT if I got rid of the Corsa and got a bike then I could afford to go out more and spend money on other things, then when I was 21 insurance would have dropped on cars and wouldn't be silly money any more...

The thrill of a bike can't be beaten at 17/18 anyway IMO, no other car comes close to the speed that you could insure at my age

Its up to you mate, if you feel you could handle it but personally, im the type that regrets things after it happens such as taking corners too fast and thinking after it ''shit that was close'' but with a bike you dont have the same control and protection which may lead to you not being able to regret it.

Ever.

(all of the above is my own opinion and is my thoughts regardless of the situation)

Lol I appreciate what you're both tryin to say and I've thought about it after having my parents keep going on at me about it....

Basically I've got good reactions and on the road I am alert, eg I'm always thinking what other people may do. I don't do that many miles anyway, 90ish per week to college and back, to mates houses etc.

Understand what you're both saying though and it's the only thing putting me off it

I take it easy in the wet and my speed is appropriate to the road conditions
