Is the noise actually coming from the inlet area, if its coming from round the cambelt area i'd say water pump or one of the rollers.

That my friend is ur cambelt and Roller/Tensioner goin as i had the same noise from the same place and u better ad get it done asap as mine was about to snap...

bad news it seems, how much roughly that might cost? (if it is the case)
*edit* timing belt was changed some 5k ago when head gasket set was fitted

well, it's the same one but on the second download you can hear the noise quite well....(it's not the induction)...it's like taktaktakataktak...the best i can explain

ive got the exact same noise on my gsi. (well it sounds the same) getting a campet kit and tensioner tomorrow. just in case!

it wasnt doing this before
it does it more when it's cold and then stops as engine gets warmer
are these the tappets? i've tried to search in Help Zone and many seems to give almost the same explanation as mine...
also oil was changed 1k ago and it is already darker than I might have expected and this noise started some time after service was done

mine has only started doing it and mine does when the cars warm, not cold.
do you really wanna risk it and not changet the cambelt coz if that goes then it will cost a lot more than the £100+ to do it.

like you said from the previous posts its a common problem when starting cold ina corsa cause oh the hydraulic lifters
book it in to a recommended garage and ask for there opinion

well i changed my cambelt, rollers and tensioner last night and the noise is gone.
When we took the rollers out you could see there was play in the bearing so it must have been them.
My advice would be just to do it.
£100 for the cambelt kit and then £40 for a mate to help me do it.

where did you get the cambelt kit from?
BTW the cambelt was changed some 5k before, cant i just change the rollers and tensioner?

I got it from Bennetts, a local parts supplier. Cost £95.77 with belt, 2 rollers and tensioner. Most part suppliers should have them in for about the same price.
From the sounds of it the Cambelt might have been the only thing changed and they didnt do the rollers ect
You could just change the rollers and tensioner but ive always worked on the fact that if the belt comes off.... a new one goes one.

ok, yeah, from the receipts i have for the car, it had the belt changed some 5k back but no mention of the tensioner and rollers...

Make sure you do the water pump too mate, I'd say thats what the noise is anyway

i went to a garage today and it just decided not to make that noise...
the guy's telling me that they might be the tappets...since it does it more when engine is cold
and that it stops when there is enough oil later
can anybody explain this to me now...i dont understand anything in this

Mine didnt do it when it was cold... or from start up. more when the engine warmed up and the revs were higher.

^^ah now this is all different i guess....
mine does it louder when cold and then becomes quieter as engine warms up...
