on my 1.2L Corsa b can i take it off without damagin the engine so i can paint it?

8v or 16v, yeah you can remove it without damaging it. Just be careful, maybe worth getting a new gasket if your taking it off as you may break/tear the old one of while your pulling the rocker cover off.

the gasket is in Halfords for about £3 IIRC, I replaced mine about 6 months ago cos it was leaking slightly.
Go ahead and do it if you want, don't let the gasket put you off!

Yeah gaskets dont cost alot, and its easy to change.

took everything off apart from the rocker itself which i masked off to spray silver.
