If these go wonky can they still cause the car to cut out although they are cable ones.

The reason i ask is that my car is trying to cut out and i noticed that mine is cross threaded becuase i cannot completely secure the cable right in with the bit that screws down onto the sensor.

yes they can. if they are not driving the clocks correcly then the vss signal will be wrong
