hi there peeps, i was supposed to be buying a 1.4 sport corsa but unfortunatley it has been sold so that is no more, soo i have now been offered a 1.6 sport which is allready lowered on coilovers so the handling is pretty much sorted,
about what bhp is the 1.6 sport standard, compaired to the newer 1.8 sri??
what modifications can be done to the 1.6 engine to gain a few bhp would ideally like 130+ bhp im dont have a paticular budjet but dont want to be spending a fortune.
any ideas really appreciated

x16xe is 104 ish bhp compared to 1.8 sri which is about 123bhp

130bhp your goin to be looking at a inlet manifold, air filter, stainless exhaust i would have thought

they are good for up to 150+ bhp if you want to spend money, but they are a straight forward bolt-on mod that will give around 120-125 bhp on a standard 1.6 16v

same as the dbilas inlets really, but dbilas are easier to get hold of and a better design and quality.

ive had a mantzel and fitted lots of dbilas inlets. if i bought another i would buy the dbilas. £460 from regal.

are they hard to fit or are they pretty straight foreward?? so with some simple breathing mods like dbilas 421 manifold ss exhaust and induction kit i should easily b able to gain 130ish bhp??
how wold a corsa with the following modifications fair up against a 1.8 sri corsa C, or a saxo vts
sory for ll the questions and thanx for all the help

fitting depends on how good you are and your understanding of mechanics. should see 125ish bhp then about 130i-135ish with remap and raised rev limit.

To fit one, you need to unbolt the upper inlet manifold, and take off.

Unbolt the throttle body from the side of the engine, extend some coolant pipes to reach to the throttle body on the other side of the engine.

Bolt on the powerbox.

Link up all the vacum pipes to the new manifold and then start the car.

It's pretty time consuming, but fairly straight forward.

Heres a pic so you can get a grasp: -

not quite as easy as that, but thats the basics. theres drilling to do and wiring to extend and lots of other fiddly bits......

no need to extend the coolant pipes either.

Drilling, didn't need to do any of that.

Wiring, forgot about that.

And as for coolant pipes, I would rather extend them than get throttle icing.

so a mechanich should be able to fit it, does it come with fitting instructions?? also what other modifications are generally made to compliment this and give more power and better drive??
also what are the best type of remappable chip's and how much do they generally set you back

you must have drilled out the holes on the throttle body to be able to mount it on the box?

and the coolant pipes arent anything to do with throttle icing, the problem with extending them is that there isnt much room for them and quite often they will rub together and against other parts and split. Ive never fitted them and ive never had any problems on over 10 inlets ive fitted.

whichever way you do it is fine tho, where do you live? I will fit it for you if you like, most garages wont want to know!

out of interest, does fitting one of these have a detrimental effect on fuel economy?

no difference in fuel economy if your driving style stays the same, but you will be using the higher revs more. mine didnt change at all really.

i get better mpg on my 170 bhp throttle bodied x16xe than my standard 1.4 16v sport!
