As above. Recently purchased a corsa gsi with just over 36k on the clock and not 100% whether its genuine. I have MOTs dating back to 2001 in which time the milage adds up. That doesnt account for the missing 3years (presuming the car didnt need an MOT for 3 years after manufacture)

a car does not have to have an mot for 3 years deffinately

as far as i know there is no deffinate way of checking on the new cars there is by the ecu just do general checks round engine bay mate you should be able to tell really by the condition of the car really

All my MOT cerfiticates have the milage, but you never know, really. I had some work done on the car and the bloke reckons it hasnt done 36k judging by the state of the underside. Ive had a look and think it looks fairly clean - considering the age of the car. Just doesnt look like the car has been cleaned properly since new.

It's 1995 M reg, bought it from Cambridgshire which it had been since new. He said there was alot of crap on the underside. Didnt mention rust.

reason iask if its from the coast is because cars from the coast age quicker due to the salt in the air car may be just had a hard life its an old car now

Thats what i thought. It was apparently owned by an older woman so clearly isnt going to get washed alot, but as i said, its got all the history and MOt certificates from '01. I have looked for burrs on the screws around the steering column, there are some there but its had an after market immobiliser fitted so i put it down to that.

is the steering wheel overly shiny?

is the drivers seat worn?

carpets worn?

gearknob?

if they are, its been clocked, if they arent, its probably genuine

and if the mileage all adds up on the mots back to 2001, then its probably ok

if it was serviced at vauxhall, you can get the full history even if its not been stamped, and that will be genuine mileages

The steering wheel isnt overly shiny i would say, the rest seem to be in good condition and the bolster isnt worn worn away either. It wasnt serviced at vauxhall, but all work and MOTs have been carried out by one garage.

Another thing to check is the seatbelts, do they recoil well or just hang loosely? A car thats had more usage will have tired belts too.

Sounds genuine tbh

Just check the general wear and tear, it's the only real way to tell.

The clocks on the ometer might be uneven, that's another way to see, but isn't 100%.

thing is that when I got mine 4 years ago it had less than 40k on it, if some old biffa's had it for the past three and hardly driven it, it's not unfeasible for it to be so low.
