i have just got back from preston, and my engine managment light come on! my EGR valve is sticking and is gonna cost me £100 to replace it.
i have had a new loom, ecu, speedo drive unit, and the general wear and tear! what is it with this ecotec crap! every component of this engines crap=ecotec

matt, not being funny, but do you think it might have had something to do with you not running the engine in properly?

Mileage and age related issues.

You don't expect it to be like it was brand new do you?

my 1.4 16v was fine never missed a beat untill I started modding it! iv said it before when the whole 2 litre 1.6 debates get going I really think you need to think about proper managment if your going to mod a small block xe.

seen modern sports have as many issues

my gsi has been fautless, and i drove the damn thing VERY hard

although it does smoke now on a cold start & when backing off the throttle when caning it, but still, no major problems to report of! engine issues I know is due to me, not the car!

My 1.4 was very low miles as it was a Vauxhall replacement engine under waranty and that lasted 2 years after driving it hard and moding it with cams etc etc.

All down to how you treat it I guess....

But saying that before my XE got rebuilt I did 1k miles a week and drove it sooo damn hard and it never skipped a beat...even after 30+ runs at Santapod in the same day

What sort of problems are people getting??

GSi is not a money pit... as with any car, its luck of the draw when it comes to running problems!

my egr valve stuck open last week coming home from my girlfriends in manchester to it to a local garage that specialise in vaux ( use same machines but were £50 cheaper straight away to put it on diagnostic machine then he took it out for a spin all linked up an it came back fixed

he had managed to reset the valve, said it was prob stuck due to abit of carbon off the engine, he said to me u have to watch with dealerships as if id taken it to my local lookers they would have charge me £83 for diagnostic testing then told me i would have needed a new valve
