x16xe head is about 22 kilos if that helps?

have you found the wieght of a C20 XE?

why dont you get two people with the car to weigh them on a scrap yard wieghing platform?

i cant find anything on the wieght od either engine anywhere...

you'd need to have cars weighing exactly the same, same fuel etc...

I think its easier to just search for figues on the net


Found out that someone somewhere thinks that the 16 is 60kg lighter than a 20...

seems a bit much to me

apparently, an x16xe with gearbox weighs about 110 kilos.

just spoke to a lad i know that has had an engine and box delivered buy a courier company. he paid for 100 kilos on a pallete and had to pay for an extra 10 when it arrived at the garage.

so... the 50-60kg looks about right..

C20XE with F20 = 125 + 35 = 160kg
16XE with F15 = 110kg

now.....

What does this really do to the handling
Standard susp would be shocking etc... yes...

feck me, 50 kilos is 8 stone

ive driven both a 2 litre corsa and a 1.6 on tb's. the extra weight is very noticeable, didnt realise its that much!

its behind/above the front wheels though.... Its just like having a small passenger.

I dont think the handling suffers that much, if at all.

wouldnt it be easier to buy a 2.0 or 1.6 corsa that has a few engine mods already? then tune it as an when you feel the need to ? i know people prefer to do a lot of work themselves, but it saves a lot of money for you, on conversion costs etc.

you could buy a very good 2.0 corsa for say £2500, then when you get used to it and save up some money, start tuning the engine, with TB's or whatever

it would be like bolting a labrador to your bonnet, not ideal, but as ive not driven a 2 litre corsa, i dont know how much of an effect it has on the handling

i had a x14xe with 115bhp for a few years, and had a 2.0 for a few years....

There isnt that much in it, if anything.

Maybe a lot of people are reffering to the understeer under power as bad handling Thats just stupid driving.

My 2.0 seemed to drift out less at the front than my 1.4 in the wet. Could be down to tyre choice

Can the people that say it doesnt handle as well please tell me in what way?

Does the front understeer more? If so... when?

i'd say, as an educated guess....

if the car is pushed too hard, it will underteer more than something with less weight over the front

might be wrong, but i'd say the laws of physics are on my side

i really need to drive a 2 litre and try it myself

problem is, you need a similar suspension set up, tyre choice, weight, corner, entry speed, there's just too many variables to make an accurate assesment

2 litre should have more traction though, theoretically, as theres more mass over the wheels

and i agree about your point of understeering under acceleration, my car did that if i was driving like a tit, and that was with 116bhp, and 130bhp, but all my own fault

also, in the wieght comparison, you need to add up all the conversion kit parts, as the mounts are heavier, shafts, hubs etc all add up, maybe only 5kg in all, but its still a difference

i found that in the 2 litre corsa i was carrying less speed through corners as it felt like it wanted to understeer more than the 1.6. its difficult to describe, it just felt less nimble and heavier than the 1.6 I was a lot less confident when it was being pushed. had to be a lot more precise and literally point the car in the right direction before getting back on the throttle. found the biggest difference was when it was damp/wet. the 1.6 is so much better.

adam, the weight if infront and above the wheels yes?! how can that be like havin a small passenger? the weight of a small passenger will be like 4stone front 4 stone rear, 8 stone over the front is totally different, there will not be much weight over the rear wheels... it wont be balanced like having a passemnger.

i could work it all out using moments for you but i dont have my corsa here to make measurements.....

My old 2.1 Corsa handled just fine.

I even won a round of the Scottish/British hill climb c'ship with it.
