hello, im after upgrading my graphics card, at the moment its a nvidia geforce 6200 one i think.
computer is an AMD Athlon 64 4400 dual core, 2Gb ram, 200Gb SATA HD etc. Done a search on here and been looking at the geek shops and the geforce 7800gt seems nice for spending about £200.
Also whats the difference between AGP and PCI express? i think the one i have now is PCI express.

agp runs at either x4 or x8 were as PCI - E runs at x16 iirc

PCI express is better yes.
Good card I think.
There are a few who have been looking into gcards on here recently though so they might know better.

AGP is dead now, hardly any of the latest high end cards will use AGP. its all about PCI-e now. the cream of the crop is the 7800GTX, even more so in SLi mode (2 cards). but that gets pricey. 7900 will soon be on the shelves, so wait for that and grab yourself a 7800GTX 512MB version. mega power for good money when the price drops.

AGP and PCi-E are the slots, they are different so graphics cards are not inter-changeable between the two......make sure you definitely know which you need, before you buy.
And I'd echo the above, wait for the release of the 7900GTX and see how much the price of the 7800GTX comes down, that's what I'm doing (since the card I'm looking at is currently just under £600).

Also remember that Nvidia will be releasing a host of other new cards along with the 7900. the 7600 and 7800MS i believe. 7800MS is an AGP card, and i can imagine this will be a BIG seller, as its cheaper than the 7800GTX, better performance than the 7800GT.

most PCI-E slots run at x8 as standard
if you spend over £140 on a mobo then they will run at x16 but thats not a definate
graphics cards cannot max out a AGP x8 yet so spending the extra on the x16 slots means you will have to wate awhile till you actually see a differance unless you use a high end I/O card.

Why are people comparing the agp and pci express 4x 8x etc.
4x agp is not the same as 4x pci-e

adam, please ignore the idiots, just hang on for a month and get an x1900 AIW card, amazing value for money, better than a 7800gt for the same sort of money, plus you get all the AIW features.
and cybermonkey, the 7800gtx is not the cream of the crop any longer, x1900xt is better and cheaper

yes but you need a good chipset for it to be a x16
if you have a SLI board it will have the first slot as a x16 and the second one will usually be a x8 slot.

so x8 via 2 slots means that it is a x16 dose it????
i thinks it means that each slot goes to x8 when they are both in use because the chipset is crap and carn't hack both slots at x16
can i get back to my Tech support job now
