Any Ideas? Checked my water level the other day - was fine. Cleaned my car today, checked all my fluids as usual, water reservoir is empty! Fill it up, think nothing else of it. Took it for a quick drive this afternoon, notice on idle, there is a slight rattle noise from engine that I've never heard before. Radiator temp etc shows no porblem. Get home, and mention to my dad, he checks fluid levels again - water reservoir is empty again! Rattling still is there, but isn't too noisy once engine is warm. The engine has doen 127,100 miles, but has been regularly serviced etc. Any ideas as to what has gone/is about to go?
Sorry for the essay btw

So it MIGHT be a knakered water pump just throwing all my water out? And also could explain the rattling aswell if its knakered? My mechanical knowledge is shoot!

Anybody? No residue on Oil Cap - so hoping not head gasket as has been suggested. Water Pump and/or thermostat have been suggested so far?

Nope, and no sign in temperature increase via the thermometer either. Drives fine. Noise only audible when at idle, no sign (that I'm aware of) as to where my water is going!

the seal could have broken in the water pump causing it to be a bit loose and leak water. i would get this sorted asap as you could lose tension in your cambelt.

fill it up and leave it running for a while cheak to c if water seems to be boiling bubbling in the tank turn engine off and open cap on ur water tank be carefull because it could splash everywhere
if it does this its pressurising and is more than likely ur head gasket the temp wont neccesary go up yet as its sign of it just going

Yeh im gonna try and get it checked out tomorrow AM. Thermometer has always been a little bit dodgy as it doesn't show any change in temperature unless I sit at idle (eg traffic jam) for more than 10 minutes or so. Gonna try and get thermostat done for definite then will look into water pump. Seriously hoping it isnt head gasket as this may make my car a write off! Cars only worth about £450 at tops! Cheers for your help though guys. Will try and get this checked out tomorrow and get it resolved ASAP as I need my car!
